JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FLSportsWire) – Preseason All-ACC selections Marvin Wilson and Asante Samuel Jr. were named ACC Players of the Week for their performances Saturday against Georgia Tech.

University of Miami redshirt junior Corey Gaynor was ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week. Samuel is the league’s Defensive Back of the Week, while Wilson is the Specialist of the Week.

Samuel, from Sunrise, Florida, nabbed the second and third interceptions of his career and is the only player in the country in 2020 with a multiple-interception game. Samuel intercepted Yellow Jacket quarterback Jeff Sims twice in the first half and returned each for over 35 yards. Samuel’s first interception, on the opening drive of the season, set up FSU’s first touchdown of the season.

Samuel added two pass breakups against Georgia Tech and now leads active ACC players with 25 for his career.

Wilson, from Houston, tied an FSU single-game record with two blocked field goals on Saturday. He is just the second player in FSU history with two blocked field goals in a game and, along with Janarius Robinson’s blocked PAT, helped FSU tie a school record with three blocked kicks in a game. He added three tackles and a quarterback hurry on defense.

This is the second career ACC player of the week honor for Wilson – he was the Defensive Lineman of the Week in 2019 for his game against Louisville. This is Samuel’s first career weekly award.

Gaynor was recognized for his outstanding efforts in Miami’s season opener, earning ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance against UAB.

Gaynor was Miami’s top-graded offensive lineman in a dominant outing from his unit in a 31-14 win over the Blazers on Sept. 10.

The Hurricanes (1-0) piled up 337 rushing yards in the victory, outgaining UAB, 495-285, in the decision. The 337 yards were the second-most recorded by a Miami team against an FBS opponent since the Hurricanes joined the ACC in 2004 and most in any game since 2016.

Gaynor made his 14th straight start in the middle of the line in the win.

Samuel, Wilson and the Seminoles will take the field again September 26 at No. 18 Miami.
