NHL: Flyers Skate Past Tampa Bay 4-1 in Eastern Conference Round-Robin

TORONTO – Tampa Bay fell 4-1 to Philadelphia in its round robin finale Saturday night at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena to finish the seeding games with a 2-1-0 record.

The Lightning never led in the contest.

Trailing 2-0 Tyler Johnson scored the Lightning’s lone goal at 5:21 of the second period after converting the Bolts’ second power play of the game. Johnson scored his second goal of the postseason and second goal in as many games.

Johnson netted his first power-play goal of these playoffs. He scored only one power-play goal during the regular season.

Alex Killorn provided the primary assist on Johnson’s power-play goal for his second assist and third point of these playoffs. Killorn has tallied a power-play point in each of the last two games.

Brayden Point also picked up an assist on Johnson’s power-play goal for his second assist and third point of the postseason.

Philadelphia scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Flyers’ Nicolas Aube-Kubel tipped a shot in the slot at 7:40 of the opening period to give his team a 1-0 lead. Aube-Kubel made it 2-0 Philadelphia 14 minutes into the first after converting a 2-on-1 opportunity.

Philadelphia re-established a two-goal lead at 14:22 of the second period, Joel Farabee scoring his first of the postseason to make it 3-1 Flyers.

The Flyers’ Tyler Pitlick added an empty-net goal with 1:20 remaining for the 4-1 final.

Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 26-of-29 shots in the loss, his first of the 2020 Playoffs.

The Lightning secured the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and will play the winner of Sunday’s Columbus-Toronto Game 5 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

GAME NOTES: Tampa Bay fell to 6-8 against Philadelphia all-time in the playoffs….Philadelphia outshot Tampa Bay 30-24. Nikita Kucherov led the Lightning with four shots….Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman was injured in the first period and did not return to the contest…Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos did not play Saturday…..Lightning defenseman Jan Rutta was also unfit to play.
