ECHL: Icemen Push to Playoffs Detours with 5-4 Loss to Everblades

JACKSONVILLE — Feeling pretty good after a 4-0 bashing of Orlando Saturday night, the Jacksonville Icemen continued their quest for a ECHL Southern Division playoff spot against Florida Sunday afternoon.

But Florida’s Levko Koper scored with 22 seconds to play in regulation to give the Everblades a 5-4 win.

The Icemen entered the game just eight points out of fourth place and final divisional playoff spot. The Florida improved to 38-13-5). Jacksonville is now (20-26-6).

Tied at 3-3 going into the final period, Florida’s Hunter Garlent lit the lamp for the 13th time this season, beating goaltender Adam Carlson with a wrist shot to the left corner of the net.

But the Icemen evened the game two minutes later. John Albert scored his second goal of the game and seventh on the season.

Florida opened the scoring in the first with Zach Magwood 19th goal of season on a power play.

The Icemen tied the game on Wacey Rabbit’s seventh goal of the season.

The game was tied 2-2 going into the second period.

Jacksonville took their first lead on the game on a power play when Albert beat former Iceman goaltender Ken Appleby.

A goal by the Everblades’ Michael Neville tied the contest.

Jacksonville’s Adam Dauda and Florida’s Blake Winiecki each scored to make it 3-3 midway through the second period.

Carlson made 19 saves in the net for Jacksonville. Appleby made 21 saves in the win.

Jacksonville is home Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the first of two games against last place Norfolk.

GAME NOTES: Jacksonville’s Craig Martin had three assists in the game…. the Icemen were on a two-game winning streak…Florida’s Zach Magwood was fourth with a 22.2 percent shooting percentage (18-for-81)….Jacksonville’s Mike Hedden was on a three-game goal streak (4g)…Everblades were fifth with 3.67 goals per game….Icemen are 15-0-1 when leading after two periods.
