ARENA NOTEBOOK: All-NAL Linebacker Zack Brown Re-Signs with Sharks

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks, have re-signed linebacker and fullback Zack Brown. The versatile Brown is the fourth player to rejoin the 2019 Champion Sharks under Head Coach James fuller for next season.

Earlier this week linemen Derrick Zeigler, Jaleel Brown, and defensive back / kick returner Tony Goodman all re-signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for another championship run in 2020.

Brown (6’1,255) signs with the Sharks for his fourth season of arena football. Last season with the Sharks, Brown made an impact on both sides of the ball making 32 tackles, 7.5 sacks, five pass breakups, forced one fumble, and three fumble recoveries.

On offense, he was part of the Sharks deep fullback core which included Alstevis Squirewell and Jaleel Brown.

As a fullback Brown rushed 20 times for 38 yards and eight touchdowns, including three touchdowns in the postseason. Following the 2019 regular season, Zack Brown earned First Team All-NAL honors as a mac linebacker.

Prior to the Sharks, Brown played in the American Arena League (AAL) where he played linebacker and fullback for the Atlanta Havoc helping them to a 2018 championship game and victory. During that season Brown was named an AAL All-Star Linebacker.

In 2017, Brown started his arena career with the Georgia Firebirds of the National Arena League where he played fullback and linebacker rushing 26 times for 79 yards and one touchdown. As a linebacker, he recorded 1.5 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble for the Firebirds.

Goodman (6’0,200) signs with the Sharks for his second season of arena football. Last year, Goodman recorded two interceptions in the Sharks secondary and shined as one of the best kick returners in the National Arena League.

On special teams, Goodman only played in 10 games but still led the entire NAL in kick return yards (427) and in kick return touchdowns (2) while averaging 21.5 yards per attempt. Prior to joining the Sharks, Goodman played for the Alliance of American Football (AIF) where he was signed by the Arizona Hotshots.

Goodman played college football not to far from the Shark Tank at Edwards Waters College in Jacksonville. During his college career he was an NAIA Preseason All-American. He also played high school football at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville.

Jaleel Brown spent his college career at Adrian College, a Division III school in southern Michigan. During his time at Adrian College he was an Offensive Lineman starting in 22 games for the Bulldogs from 2016-2018. In 2017, Brown and the offensive line earned two “D-III Top Offensive Line of the Week” awards by D3football.com.

Williams played for the Carolina Energy of the American Arena League (AAL) from 2018-2019. Last year he helped Carolina to a perfect 6-0 regular-season record, an AAL Championship appearance, and was named the 2019 AAL Defensive Player of the Year as well as a 2019 AAL All-Star. During the 2018 season, he helped the team to an AAL playoff appearance.

Williams spent his college career with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he totaled 175 tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. During his last year with UNC Pembroke, he was named Defensive MVP and led the team with a single-season school record of 113 tackles (60 solo).
