HOUSTON – Texans’ safety Justin Reid stonewalled a 2-point try, stopping Leonard Fournette just shy of the goal line after Jacksonville went for the lead and handed off to the third-year back.

Jacksonville (0-2) had gone 68 yards on 14 plays to get a TD, which made it 13-12 with 30 seconds remaining. But Reid was there to meet him, and keep him from a score.

The rest is history.

“The whole game came down to this one play,” Reid said. “We all went into the huddle like the game is on the line right here. Everybody just do your job. Just pay attention. I was actually responsible for the back on that play. The front line, the D line did a great job pushing the pile, opening it up to where it was basically just me and him. Just had to bow up and make a play.”

Jaguars rookie QB Gardner Minshew II, who made his first career start, completed 23 of 33 passes for 213 yards and one TD.

Minshew led the Jaguars on the drive that culminated in a 4-yard TD pass to wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. to bring Jacksonville within one.

Fournette was held in check by the Houston (1-1) defense. He mustered 47 yards on 15 carries. One went for 14 yards. The other 14 carries averaged 2.3 yards a pop.

The Jaguars were just 3-of-13 on third downs, and saw six of their 10 drives end with a punt, and one with a fumble.

After converting a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 32-yarder in the fourth quarter, Josh Lambo has now made 42 of 45 field goal attempts since becoming a Jaguar.

In Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, Houston QB Deshaun Watson completed 16-of-29 passes for 159 yards, no interceptions and ran for five yards on four carries, scoring the rushing touchdown.

The Jaguars host Tennessee (1-1) Thursday night.

GAME NOTES: Josh Allen was credited with his first career sack on the first possession of the second half when he pounced Watson for a 6-yard loss….third-round rookie LB Quincy Williams led the team with nine tackles, six solo….
