MIAMI – The Dolphins came away with the 22-7 victory over Jacksonville in the third NFL preseason game for both teams.

Both first-team offenses struggled early, especially Miami with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who is in competition with Josh Rosen for the starting job.

Jaguars first rounder Josh Allen looked right at home at defensive end.

“He’s been outstanding all camp, he really has,” said Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone about Allen. “He’s made plays – he’s a humble guy, and then to see him out here and really light up and play the game, there’s no telling what type of year this guy can have.”

Jacksonville QB Nick Foles was making his preseason debut. He completed six of 10 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown with one interception

Jacksonville scored first.

Running back Leonard Fournette picked up two yards.

Foles found Dede Westbrook for 11 yards. Coming back to Dede Westbrook, Foles was able to pick up another five yards on the next play, then Fournette picked up the rest of the yardage needed for a first down with a five yard gain on the ground.

Fournette then picked up another 12 yards, followed by two yards. After an incomplete pass attempt deep, Foles threw deep again, with cornerback Eric Rose being called for pass interference and seeking up 1st-and-10 from the Miami 15.

After five yards from Fournette, Foles found Westbrook in the back of the endzone for a 10-yard score.

Westbrook caught four passes from Foles for 29 yards. Fournette rushed for 27 yards on seven first-quarter carries and caught two passes for 19 yards.

The Dolphins cut into the Jaguars’ early lead with a pair of second-quarter field goals by Jason Sanders – 40 yards with 11:59 remaining and 46 yards with 2:51 remaining.

Fitzgerald was 5 of 11 for 33 yards passing. He looked sharper in the third quarter, leading Miami on an 11-play, 86-yard touchdown drive and scoring on an 8-yard pass to running back Mark Walton.

Rosen entered the game with Miami’s second-team offense and the ball on the Miami one-yard line.

Patrick Laird completed the 99-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Laird appeared to convert on the two-point try, but a holding penalty backed up Miami and they settled for the extra point kick.

Rosen was 5 of 7 passing for 59 yards.

Sanders converted a 43-yard field goal to wrap the Dolphins’scoring.

The Jaguars will play host to the Atlanta Falcons at TIAA Bank Field Thursday at 7 p.m. to close out the preseason.
