JACKSONVILLE – Corey Bird drove in two runs and scored another as Jacksonville bested Mobile 6-3 before 6,646 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Jumbo Shrimp’s John Silviano blasted his fourth home run of the season.

Jacksonville manager Kevin Randel gave right hander Sixto Sanchez (1-1) the start. Sanchez was looking for his first win of the season since being called up from Jupiter earlier this month. Sanchez allowed seven hits and struck out four.

With one out in Mobile’s half of the first Brandon Marsh singled past shortstop Bryson Brigman. Marsh then stole second and went to third on Jack Kruger’s fly out to Anfernee Seymour. He scored on Brandon Sanger’s RBI single to short left.

Jason Alexander (2-2) started on the mound for the BayBears.

Bad fielding led to Jacksonville taking a two-run lead in the third.

J.C. Milan reached first when the throw got by first baseman Jhoan Urena. Santiago Chavez reached on a throwing error. Bird then sliced a triple into the right field corner, scoring Milan and Chavez.  Bird crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.

But Mobile wasn’t done. Sanger launched a home run over the right field wall to lead off the fourth. His second homer of the series cut the margin to a run.

The Jumbo Shrimp tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning. Stone Garrett singled and scored on Brigman’s two out double.

In the top of the sixth Jhoan Urena tripled with one out and scored on Brandon Sandoval’s grounder to short. That was all for Sanchez, giving the ball to McKenzie Mills, who got Way to fly out to right ending the inning.

Reliever Isaac Mattson came in for Alexander in the sixth. He gave up the homer to Silviano to make it 5-3.

Jacksonville second baseman Justin Twine’s RBI single scored Seymour in the seventh for the final run. Brett Graves came in to pitch in the ninth and picked up the save. The Jumbo Shrimp’s Brian Miller has two hits.

The clubs play the final game of the five-game series Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
