ECHL: Orlando’s Tammela’s Hat Trick Thaws Icemen, 4-2

JACKSONVILLE – Jonne  Tammela’s game winning goal gave him a hat trick as the  Solar Bears defeated  the Jacksonville Icemen 4-3 before  6,138 at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena Thursday night.

The Icemen jumped out lead on goals by Christophe Lalancette and Garrett Ladd.

Last time Lalancette played at Veterans Memorial Arena, it was in a Solar Bears sweater. The goal was his first of the season.

Orlando’s Mike Robinson made it 3-2. Jacksonville’s Max Fortier scored his eighth goal of the season to tie the game at the 10:49 mark of the final period.

Jacksonville’s Mikhail Berdin made 22 saves in the loss. Corbin Boes stopped 33 shots for the Solar Bears.

Both teams play again Friday night in Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m.

PRE-GAME NOTES: Of Jacksonville’s five home losses, two have come at the hands of Orlando….Orlando’s Michael Brodzinski is fourth among defensemen in plus-minus at +14…Kris Newbury leads Jacksonville with 27 points (10g-17a)….Solar Bears are 11-0-0 when leading after two periods….Icemen lead the league with 14 home wins (14-4-0).

ROSTER NOTES: Forward Colten Veloso and defenseman Garret Cockerill were activated from injured reserve, forward Colten Veloso was suspended the club team.

SOUTHERN DIVISION NOTES: Florida’s Derek Sheppard is tied for first among defensemen with four goals….Justin MacDonald leads Atlanta against the Florida Everblades with four points (2g-2a)…Everblades are 11-0-4 when scoring first… the Gladiators are fifth on the power play at home at 21.4 percent (12-for-56).
