JU: Davis Leads Dolphins in Win Third Consecutive Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men’s basketball team (6-5) won its third-straight game on Saturday night and sixth of its last seven when it closed out a dominating effort against Middle Georgia State (6-2), 100-57, on the strength of 57.1 percent shooting and a 12-28 mark from long range.

Leading all scorers was Tyreese Davis who collected 18 points, a new career high for the freshman, while also pulling down seven boards, handing out a pair of assists and blocking two shots in just 15 minutes of floor time.

Joining Davis in double figures was Jace Hogan (12 points) and for the first time in his career, KJ Fitzgerald (11 points).

Fitzgerald also pulled down four rebounds and handed out three assists. In total, 14 Dolphins saw the floor, 13 of whom scored and logged at least 12 minutes of run with nine of them dropping in multiple field goals.

This one was exciting from the start as JU jumped out to a 10 lead. Davis did the bulk of his damage during that first half with 15 points on 6-6 from the floor.

The last field goal came on a long three ball as time expired to send the Dolphins to the locker room with a 59-22 advantage. The Dolphins had scored more points in the first half than Middle Georgia State ultimately would in the entire game.

Hogan scored all 12 of his points in the first half and the Dolphins shot a 72.7 percent from the floor. The highest such field goal percentage in any half for JU this season.

The second half was more of the same as both sides emptied the benches. The Dolphins scored their second-most bench points of the season (46) and put of 48 of their 100 in the paint alone. Jacksonville’s 12 three balls are also a season high.

From here the Dolphins will enter the final stages of the non-conference slate, beginning with a trip to Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 15 before heading north for dates with Notre Dame (Dec. 20) and Indiana (Dec. 20).

The conclusion of the non-conference schedule will come on Dec. 30 when the Dolphins look for a season-sweep of Presbyterian at Swisher Gymnasium.

ASUN Conference play officially gets underway on Jan. 5 with 2017 Champion and preseason favorite Lipscomb visiting Swisher.
