ECHL: Nailers Surprise Icemen at Home, 4-1

JACKSONVILLE — Wheeling’s Troy Joesphs scored a hat trick as the Nailers won for the third time this young ECHL season with a  4-1 victory over Jacksonville (9-5-0) at Veterans Memorial Arena.

Tanner Jaillet made 22 saves in the loss. John Muse stopped 36 shots as the Nailers improved to 3-6-1.

The Icemen’s lone goal came from Dan DeSalvo at 16:12 in the third. It was DeSalvo’s second goal of the season. Wheeling’s final goal came on an empty net.

GAME NOTES: Each team  had six minutes of penaltiesWacy Rabbit’s home point streak comes to an end, but remains the longest home point streak in the league at nine games (11 points)…Cam Maclise is on a four game point streak  Jacksonville hits the road for an away game tomorrow at Greenville, then heads back home for four-in-five over Thanksgiving week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK – Troy Bourke of the Orlando Solar Bears was named the Inglasco ECHL Player of the Week. Bourke scored three goals and added five assists for eight points in two games last week. The 24-year-old had two goals and two assists in a 7-4 win against Jacksonville on Tuesday and added a goal and three assists in a 5-3 victory at South Carolina on Saturday.  Michael Garteig of the Newfoundland Growlers his the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week. Garteig went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .971 in three appearances last week as the Growlers extended their winning streak to six games. The 27-year-old turned aside 30 shots in a 3-1 win against Worcester on Tuesday, made 26 saves in a 4-2 victory over Manchester on Friday and stopped all 44 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against the Monarchs on Saturday.

JETS RECALL VESALAINEN – The Winnipeg Jets recalled  forward Kristian Vesalainen from the Manitoba Moose. Vesalainen, 19, played five games with the Jets to start the season, registering one assist in his NHL debut in the Jets season opener on Oct. 4 at St. Louis. He was assigned to the Moose on Oct. 19 and posted eight points (3G, 5A) in eight games, including three goals in his last three games with Manitoba. Vesalainen was drafted by the Jets in the first round (24th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft.
