ECHL: Jaillet’s Pro Debut a Success in 4-2 Icemen Win

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Icemen rookie goalie  Tanner Jaillet made his pro debut a memorable one with a 4-2 ECHL victory over Greenville Friday night before 5,396 at Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Icemen improved to 4-0 and are in first place in the South Division.

Jaillet made 11 saves. He got the start when Mikhail Berdin was called up to Manitoba, the Icemen’s AHL affiliate.

Jacksonville struck first with a quick goal by Everett Clark, assisted by Alexis D’Aoust, at the 1:59 mark of the opening period. Wacey Rabbit scored in his second straight game to put the hosts up by two goals.  D’Aoust and Clark got the assists.

The Swamp Rabbits (1-3) got on the board in the second period when Johno May scored his fourth goal of the season.  J.C. Brassard and Trevor Owens picked up assists.

The Icemen answered with a short handed goal while Kris Newbury sat in the box for slashing. Dajon Mingo broke a way at center ice and beat Garrett Bartus on the glove side for his first red-lighter of the season.

Bartus made 25 saves.

The clubs traded goals in the final two minutes. Brassard scored for the Swamp Rabbits. D’oust scored his fourth goal of the season to wrap up the scoring and was named player of the game.

Jaillet, 25, accomplished a long list of accolades over his final two seasons at the University of Denver.

An all-NCHC, NCAA all-American and the 2017 Mike Richter Award winner as the top collegiate goaltender in America, he led the Denver to an NCAA title.

He finished his four-year collegiate career with an 82-27-16 record with a 2.04 GAA and a .925 career saves percentage. He left sharing the all-time wins record with Ron Grahame (82).

GAME NOTES: Jacksonville captain Garet Hunt set new all time ECHL penalty minute record when he took on Travis Howe for the second time in the game…The Swamp Rabbits remain winless on the road….the two teams meet again in Greenville on Sunday…for the second straight game a goal was disallowed, a Greenville tally was waived off for a high stick…D’Oust and Rabbitt are tied for the team’s assist lead with five each….forward Cam Maclise has been assigned from Manitoba to Jacksonville.
