Marlins Send Gonzalez to Jacksonville, Buckelew Released

The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

Right-handed pitcher Merandy Gonzalez has been optioned from the Miami Marlins to Jacksonville. Gonzalez pitched in six games for the Marlins in the majors, going 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA, striking out 11 batters in his 13 innings of work.

Gonzalez, a member of the Marlins 40-man roster, started the season with the Jumbo Shrimp, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in his two starts for Jacksonville.

In a corresponding move, left-handed relief pitcher James Buckelew has been released by the Marlins organization. Buckelew pitched in two games for Jacksonville, with no wins or losses and a 2.25 ERA in his four innings of work.

Buckelew started the season with Triple-A New Orleans, where he was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in six appearances for the Baby Cakes.

The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players
