Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s Brigham SL Pitcher of the Week.

MARIETTA, GA – The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs are excited to announce the first Weekly Award winners of the 2018 season.

Following successful starts, infielder Hutton Moyer of the Mobile BayBears has been named Player of the Week and right-handed pitcher Jeff Brigham of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp has been named Pitcher of the Week.

Both awards recognize these players for their performances during the first 10 games of the SL season, ranging from April 5-15.

Moyer, 24, has appeared in all of Mobile’s nine games this season and leads the league in a number of offensive categories including home runs (4), RBI (12), stolen bases (6), slugging percentage (.794) and total bases (27). The New York native is also tied for the league lead in extra-base hits with seven.

Mobile (4-5 overall on the season) boasts a 3-1 record in games which Moyer records a home run, outscoring opponents 35-12 during those games. With runners in scoring position, Moyer is hitting .375 (3-for-8) with three homers and nine RBIs for a whopping 1.500 slugging percentage.

The Pepperdine University product was previously selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He is the son of 25-year MLB veteran Jamie Moyer.

Brigham, 26, is 2-0 in his first two starts with just two walks and a league leading 18 strikeouts.

He is one of two qualified pitchers still sporting a spotless 0.00 ERA so far this year and ranks among the best in a number of categories for starting pitchers including: lowest opponent batting average (.182), highest strikeouts per nine innings pitched (16.20), and fewest baserunners per nine innings pitched (7.20).

The University of Washington product is making his Double-A debut in 2018 after being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB draft.

Brigham was traded to the Miami Marlins organization on July 30, 2015, and spent 2016-17 with the Hi-A Jupiter Hammerheads.
