Miami FC 2 Earns 2-1 Victory Over FC Kendall

The Miami FC 2 hosted FC Kendall, in its third preseason friendly of the year. The two sides battled hard with MFC 2 coming out on top 2-1.

The first half started slowly as both sides played strong defense.

The 6th minute saw Don Smart flash down the right wing before sending in a dangerous cross that required a punch-out to keep it from the head of Vincenzo Rennella.

Smart acted as setup man again in the 21st minute, as he teed up Tomas Greco at the top of the box. Unfortunately, Greco’s strike hit the crossbar and rolled to safety.

The Miami FC 2 finally broke through in the 35th minute. Great inter-play saw Greco receive the ball at the top of the box. A quick turn and pass put the ball in the path of Dylan Mares who finished the chance to put MFC 2 in the lead.

The advantage would be short lived as FC Kendall was able to draw a penalty in the 40th minute, which was converted by Jona Andrade.

The physical first half would come to an end tied up at 1-1.

The Miami FC 2 was much sharper in the second half, creating a flurry of chances.

Greco and Mares combined well again, this time in the 58th minute. Once again Greco played a good ball to Mares but this time the shot was saved.

New man Jeff Michaud came in to the match in the 62nd minute and instantly impacted the match.

Three minute into his stint, Michaud caused a turnover in the FC Kendall half and picked out Rennella with a pass at the top of the box. Rennella was able to get a shot off but saw it float over the crossbar.

In the 67th minute, Michaud unleashed a vicious attempt from distance, beating the keeper far post to give MFC 2 a 2-1 advantage.

Smart nearly found the back of the minute in the 71st minute after he received a cross from Rennella and struck the post with his attempt at the far post.

The final chance of the match came in the 90th minute when Smart lofted a fantastic cross to a wide open Stefano Fanfoni, but he could not steer the headed chance on target.

The Miami FC 2’s closes the preseason, Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m. in a friendly against the SIMA Aguilas.

MFC 2’s inaugural NPSL season kicksoff with the Magic City Clasico, taking on Miami United on the road on April 15 before hosting the cross-town rival at Bobcat Field at St. Thomas University on April 21.
