BASEBALL: Hoover to Call Marlins Spring Training Games Again this Season

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Director of Broadcasting and radio play-by-play announcer Roger Hoover will join the Miami Marlins for a third straight year to broadcast Spring Training games on Marlins.com and the MLB At Bat app next week.

He will again be the play-by-play voice on the Jumbo Shrimp Network presented by Community First Credit Union, partnering with Delmarva Educational Association Corporation, to carry all 140 regular season games – beginning April 5 – and potential playoff dates on Sunny 102.3 Jacksonville Greatest Hits.

Preparing for his seventh season in Jacksonville and 11th in professional baseball, Hoover, 29, will join Kyle Sielaff, host of Marlins On Deck on the Marlins Radio Network, for five audio webcasts of Miami’s Grapefruit League games against the Houston Astros (Wednesday, March 7), St. Louis Cardinals (Thursday, March 8, and Saturday, March 10), Boston Red Sox (Friday, March 9), and New York Yankees (Sunday, March 11). Each game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Eastern Time. Fans can listen to the webcasts on Marlins.com, MLB.com, or the MLB At Bat app.

“I’m thrilled to head back to spring training with the Marlins for this week of broadcasts,” Hoover said. “I’m grateful to Kyle and the Marlins Radio Network for this opportunity, and I love being on the air when so many former Jumbo Shrimp players get their first opportunities to play in a major league game. This is an exciting time of the year and another sign that baseball is right around the corner for our fans in Jacksonville.”

A native of Kingsport, Tenn,, and 2010 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Hoover had previous minor league stops with the Tennessee Smokies and the Kingsport Mets. In the baseball offseason, Hoover is in his fourth year as the radio play-by-play announcer for University of Alabama women’s basketball on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. He also provides play-by-play for SEC Network+ broadcasts of college baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer, with all broadcasts available on the ESPN app.

The Jumbo Shrimp Network presented by Community First Credit Union gives fans free, live online broadcasts of all games at www.jaxshrimp.com and the TuneIn app. Every home game will stream live and on-demand on MiLB.TV. Subscription to MiLB.TV includes access to game video streams across Minor League Baseball. All Jumbo Shrimp home games on MiLB.TV will carry the broadcast heard on Sunny 102.3 Jacksonville’s Greatest Hits.

“Sunny 102.3 Jacksonville’s Greatest Hits is proud to partner with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp,” said Sunny 102.3 Jacksonville’s Greatest Hits Station Manager Gary Walsh. “We are always looking for great family fun, and nobody does it better than the Jumbo Shrimp!”

In addition to comprehensive pregame (15 minutes before scheduled first pitch) and postgame shows, the Jumbo Shrimp Network will again offer fans The Jumbo Shrimp Podcast, along with video and written features at medium.com/jaxshrimp.

Joining Hoover on the radio will be Jumbo Shrimp Media and Public Relations Manager Marco LaNave, who is in his third season in Jacksonville after spending the previous four years as head of media relations and lead play-by-play broadcaster with the Quad Cities River Bandits in Davenport, Iowa.
