ECHL: Jasper Tallies Twice as SwampRabbits Thaw IceMen, 4-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The elusive two game winning streak remains just that for the IceMen. Jacksonville dropped a 4-2 decision to Greenville (15-10-2) Saturday night before 6,076 at Veterans Memorial Arena. The SwampRabbits’ Evan Jasper scored two goals.

Jacksonville (5-14-2-2) started off hot opening the scoring with Garet Hunt’s sixth goal of the season. Dajon Mingo  and Cameron Critchlow each picked the first of two assists in the game. Jack Nevins knotted the score with his fourth goal of the season.

Trailing 3-1 Jacksonville took the fight to the Swamp Rabbits. Greenville’s Matt Prapavessis and  Tanner Eberle tangled behind goalie Ty Rimmer. They both went off for roughing, Prapavessis with a bloody nose.

Joe Basaraba made it 4-1 in the second period with an assist to Caleb Herbert.

The fireworks following the goal was a fight between Nevins, Greenville’s penalty minute leader with 91 coming into the game, and Cristiano DiGiacinto.

The IceMen cut into the lead with Elgin Pearce’s seventh tally of the season.

Rimmer stopped 23 shots for Greenville. Austin Lotz played the first two periods for Jacksonville and made seven saves. Colton Phinney, who was just recalled from Manitoba, made five saves in the final period.

The Icemen play at division leader Florida on Dec. 20. They host Atlanta on Dec. 21.

NOTES: The evening was highlighted by the fans who threw over 3,000 teddy bears onto the ice after the first Icemen goal for Teddy Bear Toss night, presented by Community First Credit Union…..it was also Ugly Sweater Night with the IceMen making an on-ice fashion statement. Jersey’s would be auctioned off for charity….Jacksonville was looking for its first two game winning streak of the season after defeating Manchester 7-6 last time out.

DALY FOR HARRISON: The Icemen have received defenseman Tim Daly from the Norfolk Admirals in exchange for defenseman Chase Harrison. Daly (5’11”, 190 lbs) has played in 21 games this season for the Norfolk Admirals, scoring once and notching seven assists. In 106 career ECHL games, Daly has recorded 48 points (11G, 37A). He also played in two games this season for Jacksonville’s AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

SOUTH DIVISION NOTES:  Phil Lane leads Atlanta with 13 goals…the Gladiators are 9-1-0 when allowing two goals or less. Florida’s Martin Ouellette has allowed two goals or less in six of his last eight games…the Everblades have outscored their opponents 66-36 in the second and third periods….Greenville’s Branden Troock is on a five-game point streak (4g-5a)….Greenville has scored four goals in each of its last four games….Jacksonville’s Cristiano DiGiacinto scored his first career goal on Wednesday against Manchester….the Icemen are 5-2-1 when leading after two periods….Norfolk’s T.J. Melancon has four goals in his last seven games….the Admirals have scored multiple power-play goals in a game six times this season….Orlando’s J.C. Campagna is second among rookies with 17 assists…..the Solar Bears are 5-1-1 when scoring first….South Carolina’s Joey Leach had five points (2g-3a) in three games last week….South Carolina is one of just two teams to have not allowed a shorthanded goal.
