ECHL: Solar Bears Take Jacksonville to Overtime, Lose 4-3

JACKSONVILLE –  The Jacksonville IceMen took a 3-0 lead over Orlando and held on for a 4-3 overtime victory at Veterans Memorial Arena.  Jimmy Lodge scored the game winner. Tyson Fawcett picked up the assist.

It was Jacksonville’s third win of the season.  And second straight at home. The Solar Bears fell to 4-9-2.

Scott Savage, Brendan Collier and Lodge opened the scoring for the hosts.

J.J. Piccinich and J.C. Campagna tallied for Orlando in the second period.

Trailing 3-2 Orlando’s Max Novak scored a power play goal when Christopher Dienes was serving a double-minor for high-sticking. Joshua Winquist and Nolan Valleau got the assists.

Colton Phinney made 31 saves for the IceMen.  Mackenzie Skapski stopped 37 shots for the Solar Bears.

Announced attendance was 4,463. The IceMen return home Friday to face Atlanta at 7:30 p.m.

South Division Notes: Atlanta’s Lindsay Sparks’ nine-game assist streak ended on Sunday against South Carolina. The Gladiators are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. Atlanta hosts South Carolina on Thursday, travels to Jacksonville on Friday and hosts the Icemen on Sunday….Florida’s Joe Cox is tied for first among rookies in plus-minus at +10. The Everblades are 9-2-1 when out shooting their opponent. Florida visit,, Friday and Saturday. Greenville’s Caleb Herbert is on a club-record 15-game point streak. Greenville is averaging 5.13 goals per game at home. The Swamp Rabbits are at Colorado Friday and Saturday….Jacksonville’s Tyler Coulter scored his first pro goal on Tuesday against South Carolina….Norfolk’s Joonas Lyytinen had a career-high three points on Saturday against Wheeling. Norfolk has scored at least one power-play goal in six of its last seven games….Orlando’s Nolan Valleau is tied for second among defensemen with six goals and 14 points.The Solar Bears are third with 38.77 shots per game. South Carolina’s Steven Whitney has at least one point in nine of 13 games this season. South Carolina is 8-0-0 when scoring three or more goals. The Stingrays are at Atlanta on Thursday and Orlando on Saturday and Sunday.

Kansas City’s Parsons Named Goaltender of the Week: Tyler Parsons of the Kansas City Mavericks is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week. Parsons went 4-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.49 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage last week, helping the Mavericks to a five-game winning streak. The 20-year-old stopped 34 shots in a 5-2 win against Tulsa on Tuesday, made 38 saves in a 2-1 victory at Wichita on Wednesday, turned aside 35 shots in a 4-3 win at Fort Wayne on Friday and stopped all 28 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory at Quad City on Sunday.

Greenville’s Herbert named Player of the Week: Caleb Herbert of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week. Herbert scored five goals and assisted on four others for nine points in four games last week. The 26-year-old recorded three points in a 6-3 win over Atlanta on Wednesday, added an assist in a 4-1 victory against Orlando on Friday, posted another three-point game in a 4-3 overtime loss at South Carolina on Saturday and picked up a goal and an assist in a 7-6 loss to Orlando on Sunday.
