FSU: Louisville Defeats Seminoles on Last Minute Kick

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – FSU coach Jimbo Fisher characterized Saturday’s 31-28 loss to Louisville as a game of inches.

We’ve been one inch away, one play away. You can’t quit fighting. That’s the thing,” Fisher noted. “Sometimes they don’t — even when you fight for them put your heart and soul, they don’t come. You have to continue to dig for them and that’s what we’re going to do.

Louisville’s Blanton Creque kicked a 34-yard field goal with five seconds to send the Seminoles to their fourth loss of the season at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The Seminoles are 0-3 at home.

Florida State (2-4, 2-3 ACC) got two TDs from receiver Nyqwan Murray, one from tight end Ryan Izzo and a defensive fumble return for a score from linebacker Matthew Thomas.¬† The Cardinals’ Jacques Patrick fumbled the ball into the end zone, with Murray falling on it for another score.

FSU QB James Blackman finished 16 of 28 for 248 yards with two interceptions and two fumbles. The last one set up Creque’s winning kick.

Thomas tied for a team-high 10 tackles with defensive back Trey Marshall in the loss.

“The game was back and forth, but we’ve got to keep going,” Fisher said. “We expect to keep playing better — that’s the ultimate thing. Still a lot of progress being made but there’s no moral victories or anything like that. We have to find a way to make the next play.”

The Cardinals (5-3, 2-3 ACC) snapped a two-game losing streak.  QB Lamar Jackson passed for a touchdown and ran for another. He finished  140 yards passing and 178 yards rushing

Running backs Reggie Bonnafon and Dae Williams, as well as receiver Seth Dawkins, all scored TDs for the Cardinals, who won in Tallahassee for the first time since 1952.

The Seminoles face Boston College on the road Friday night.

“We’ll go back and practice tomorrow and get ready to play. I mean, whether you’re Friday or Saturday, they are going to tip it off, they are going to kick it off, so you have to be ready to play,” Fisher added.
