EWC: Miscues Frustrate Tigers Again, Fall 51-7 To Cumberlands

JACKSONVILLE – The University of The Cumberlands Patriots of Kentucky (3-1) took advantage of the benevolence  provided by  the Edward Waters College (0-4) offense and marched to a 51-7 Mid-South Conference win over the Tigers Saturday.

The Tigers only score of the game was posted after Joey Williams forced a fumble and Shaq Stoudemire recovered and ran 38 yards for a touchdown at 5:19 left in the game.   Christioni Robinson booted the extra point and the final score stood at 51-7.

Patriots running back Austin Hatfield scored on a 2-yard run at the 9:39 mark in the 1st quarter and an extra point kick by Joe Rose had Cumberlands at 7-0.

Rose booted field goals of 33 and 39 yards early in the 2nd quarter and the Patriots led 13-0 at 8:26 on remaining before halftime.

With over a minute left to play in the 2nd quarter, EWC’s QB Christian Hayes was picked off by Patriots Jeremiah Baker who returned the ball 88 yards for a touchdown.  The extra point kick by Rose put Cumberlands up 20-0.

Cumberlands’ QB Josiah Robinson connected with Shon Jones on an 11-yard pass for touchdown and an extra point kick by Rose gave the Patriots their final score of the half.

In the third quarter, Hunter Miniard caught a 31-yard pass from Robbins for a touchdown at 5:57 and an extra point kick by Rose boosted the Patriots points to 34-0.

Jay Woods intercepted Hayes with 3:44 remaining in the quarter and scampered 40 yards for a touchdown.

A point after score by Rose put Cumberlands at 41-0 over Edward Waters.  Rose kicked a 34-yard field goal late in the 3rd quarter to put the score at 44-0.  Cumberlands got their final score from a 7-yard run by Colby Martin early in the final quarter and Rose kick for an extra point.

Hayes completed 6 of 27 passes and had 4 interceptions.   The Patriots racked up 292 total yards of offense (206 rushing and 86 passing) while the defense held EWC to 94 total offensive yards (24 rushing and 70 passing).

Edward Waters travels to Naples on Saturday to take on the Ava Maria Gyrenes (1-2).

TIGERS NOTEBOOK: Dewayne Randall led all kick returners with six returns for 112 yards, the longest 27 yards…Jordan Bailey  returned four kicks for 111 yards, the longest 33 yards. On defense, Williams had 14 tackles, 11 unassisted and three assists, Lloyd Hayes and Gavin Anderson  each had seven, and Kenneth Mahone had six, all unassisted.
