JACKSONVILLE  – The (11-0) Jacksonville Sharks defeated the (3-7) High Country Grizzlies 66-18 during Christmas in June, expanding the Sharks’ win streak to 11 in front of 9,648 fans.

Jacksonville is now only one win away from completing a perfect regular season, and will be headed to the playoffs on June 24.

The Grizzlies struck first with a field goal after being pushed back from the goal line due to penalties. Darryl Thompson put the first points on the board for the Sharks shortly after, putting the Sharks ahead early. Fan favorite Micheaux Robinson pumped up the crowd with a huge interception just as the Grizzlies were about to score a touchdown.

The second quarter consisted of two touchdowns by “The Boss” Derrick Ross. The Sharks defense got even tougher as Keith Bowers sacked Grizzlies quarterback Dennis Harvilla and Damien Jacobs came through with a fumble recovery.

Charlie Hunt was next to show his talent on defense with an interception. Back on offense, new addition to the Sharks roster Ify Umodu scored his first and second touchdowns as a Shark. Damien Jacobs and Skyler Skersick were credited for another Harvilla sack.

However, the Grizzlies came back and scored as halftime neared, including a two-point conversion. The half ended 34-11 in favor of the Sharks.

In the third quarter, backup quarterback Jason Boltus came in to relieve Damien Fleming. The Sharks defense played their game, Skyler Skersick having his second sack of the night on Havilla, right before Dale Pierson sacked the Grizzlies’ quarterback again.

Keith Bowers came through and sacked Havilla for the third time in three plays. Both teams went scoreless headed into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter began with a long touchdown pass from Boltus to Mo Williams to put the Sharks ahead 41-11. High Country’s Reed Gurchiek ran in a touchdown, but it was followed by a touchdown by Sharks’ receiver Devin Wilson. Nick Belcher added two more points to the board, scoring a deuce.

Another new addition to the roster, Peter Tulloch, showed how well he fits in on this Sharks team with an incredible interception. Mo Williams widened the score gap with another touchdown, the score 57-18. With less than two minutes on the clock, Derrick Ross ran in another touchdown.

Nick Belcher kicked his second deuce of the game to end the night with a score of 66-18. The Sharks defense held High Country to their lowest score all season.

Next, the Sharks will play their last regular season game of the year against the Monterrey Steel for 80’s Night sponsored by Duval County Supervisors of Elections at the Shark Tank on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m.
