ECHL: Talbot is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month

Former Greenville Road Warriors’ goaltender Cam Talbot of the Edmonton Oilers is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.

The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and “Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL,” MeiGray has sold more than 7,000 jerseys since it became “The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL” in 2002-03.

The 29-year-old went 7-3-1 with two shutouts, a 2.31 goals-against average and a save percentage of .927 in 12 appearances during the month. He allowed two goals or less in seven of his 12 appearances and made at least 25 saves nine times. He posted shutouts in back-to-back games, making 33 saves in a 2-0 win over Vancouver on March 18 and stopping 35 shots in 2-0 victory over Los Angeles on March 20. Overall this season, Talbot has appeared in an NHL-leading 69 games posting a record of 39-21-8 with seven shutouts, a 2.37 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921.

A native of Caledonia, Ontario, Talbot appeared in two games with the Road Warriors in 2010-11 going 1-0-1 with a 2.46 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921.

Talbot has appeared in 182 career NHL games with Edmonton and the New York Rangers with an overall record of 93-63-18 with 18 shutouts, a 2.31 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

There have been 618 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 19 who have made their debut in 2016-17. The ECHL has had 426 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 362 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last 12 seasons for an average of more than 30 per year.
