IN BRIEF: Flagler Basketball Receives Sportsmanship Awards

The Flagler College men’s and women’s basketball programs have been awarded the Peach Belt Conference Team Sportsmanship Award, the league office announced on Friday. Flagler becomes the first PBC program to win both basketball team awards in the same season since they first accomplished it in 2012.

The program presents an award following each championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class. The team award is selected by other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.’

The Flagler men’s basketball team wins the honor for the second straight year and for the fifth time in the nine-year history of the award. The women’s basketball team wins their second in three years and sixth in nine years.

Flagler, which has held the PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award for six consecutive years, claims its 23rd and 24th team sportsmanship awards, leading all PBC Institutions.
