TENNIS: Fleming Island Wins Third Straight State Title

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – USTA Florida Tri-Level League teams from Fleming Island and Winter Park advanced to Indian Wells, Calif., to represent the USTA Florida Section after capturing men’s and women’s titles at the USTA Florida Tri-Level 18 & Over Playoffs, held Feb. 4-5, 2017 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
It was the third consecutive season that both Clay and Orange counties won the Florida Sectional event and advanced teams to the national championships. Tri-Level League is a doubles format designed to provide a unique team league opportunity to members by combining players of differing NTRP levels (3.5/4.0/4.5) on teams in local and sectional competition.

Final: Clay County (Eagle Harbor Country Club, Fleming Island) finished ahead of Collier County (Heritage Bay Country Club, Naples) 3-0 to 2-1 in round robin play.

The Florida men’s and women’s winners will compete against teams from the 17 USTA sections across the country to determine the men’s and women’s national champions at the 2017 BNP Paribas Open Tri-Level Championships, March 17-19, held during the ATP/WTA BNP Paribas Open.
Players will receive complimentary tickets and parking passes to watch the pros play at the BNP Paribas Open, and will be invited to attend a complimentary dinner. Individual awards will be presented to the winners of each flight along with FILA gift bags.
