AFL: Soul Survives Close One in Tampa Bay

Despite an outstanding effort by Tampa Bay Storm quarterback Adam Kennedy and receiver T.T. Toliver, the Philadelphia Soul scored late in the fourth quarter to defeat the Storm, 56-51, Saturday afternoon before 8,406 fans at AMALIE Arena.

Kennedy ended the night completing 17-of-26 pass attempts for 241 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 22 yards in his finest overall showing. Storm receiver Kendrick Ings caught one pass for a 40 yard score and ran a kickoff back for 57 yards. Toliver had a game-high 12 catches for 152 yards and three touchdowns.

Storm defensive back James Harrell collected his third interception of the season tying Cortez Stubbs for the team lead.  Stubbs forced his third fumble of the season in the first quarter. He is now tied for the League lead in forced fumbles.

The Soul tied an AFL record having now scored in 135 consecutive quarters dating back to the first quarter of the first game in 2015, joining the 2001-03 San Jose SaberCats.

Soul wide receiver Darius Reynolds corralled his 100th career touchdown reception early in the second quarter and finished the game with 102 career touchdown receptions. The Soul were led by veteran quarterback Dan Raudabaugh, who passed for six touchdowns and 238 yards on 21-of-34 passing.

The Storm hosts the Portland Steel on Fan Appreciation, Sat. July 23. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
