EUGENE, Ore. — North Florida track and field standout Bobby Harris continued his historic sophomore campaign Friday afternoon by advancing to the finals of the high jump event in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday.

Harris, the UNF record holder in the high jump with a mark of 2.19m (7-02.50), was one of 14 athletes to clear the opening height for the event of 2.14m (7-0.25). Normally, the Top 12 performers advance to the final round but heavy rains throughout the competition forced an elimination of the jump off process.

“We are thrilled that Bobby has advanced to the finals,” said UNF jumps coach Greg Krupa “Our goal coming to the trials was to reach the finals and he stayed focused and competed really well through a rain that just kept getting heavier. He trained in rain in preparation for this meet and handled the whole situation great. We are delighted that he was able to clear the qualifying height on his final attempt. We are really looking forward to participating in the finals on Sunday afternoon.”

The High Jump finals will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. (6 p.m. ET) at Hayward Field. The opening height for the finals will be 2.17m (7-1.50) and the top three finishers will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
