SUNS: Perez Joins Marlins for Fort Bragg Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Tennessee Smokies at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 6:05 p.m.

Suns outfielder Yefri Perez has been selected from the Suns by the Miami Marlins and added to their 40-man roster, as well as added as the 26th man for tonight’s game between the Marlins and the Atlanta Braves at Fort Bragg at 8 p.m.

Perez, a 2016 Southern League Midseason All-Star, was hitting .257 with a home run and 27 RBI in 73 games played for the Suns. He also leads the Southern League and is second in all of Minor League Baseball with 37 stolen bases this year.

Sunday marks the first regular-season professional contest of any sport that will be played on an active military base. The location is Fort Bragg, the United States Army installation in North Carolina, and the new 12,500-seat ballpark, Fort Bragg Field, that will host the game.

The Fort Bragg Game was created in a joint effort by MLB and the MLB Players Association to honor our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen. The first game of its kind is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, ESPN Radio and MLB.TV. Tickets are limited to military personnel.

Perez is the second Sun in 2016 to earn a call-up the major leagues, although left-handed pitcher Jarlin Garcia did not pitch in a game for the Marlins in mid-May.
