SUNS: Chattanooga Evens Series with 3-2 Win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga Lookouts second baseman Levi Michael hit a one-out, walk-off single to right field in the 11th inning to defeat the Jacksonville Suns, 3-2, at AT&T Field Monday night.

In a 2-2 tie, Suns right-hander Tyler Bremer (4-3) began the bottom of the 11th inning and allowed catcher Mitch Garver’s leadoff single. Bremer threw out Garver at second base on third baseman Ryan Walker’s bunt before walking designated hitter Stuart Turner. With runners at first and second bases, Michael lined a 2-2 pitch through the right side of the infield for the game-winning RBI single.

The Lookouts (27-30) opened the scoring the first inning against Suns right-hander Jake Esch. Center fielder Zack Granite hit a leadoff single to center field, and shortstop Leo Reginatto singled to right-center field. Right fielder Daniel Palka lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The Suns (26-31) tied the game against Lookouts right-hander Ryan Eades in the fourth inning, when third baseman Brian Anderson chopped a two-out RBI single over leaping Lookouts third baseman Ryan Walker to score right fielder Moises Sierra. Lookouts right-hander Raul Fernandez began the fifth inning by walking Suns first baseman Chris Curley, before catcher Francisco Arcia singled to right field. After a designated hitter Cam Maron grounded into a fielder’s choice, center fielder Yefri Perez hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly to left field.

With a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, Esch allowed a one-out double to Lookouts second baseman Levi Michael. Consecutive singles by Granite and Reginatto tied the game, 2-2. Esch retired the next five batters, finishing six innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

After the Suns left two runners in scoring position in the seventh inning, Chattanooga relievers retired the final 13 Suns batters in order. Right-hander Trevor Hildenberger (1-2) struck out four batters in the 10th and 11th innings for the win.

The Suns continue their series in Chattanooga at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, when Suns right-hander Austin Brice (3-4) is scheduled to start against Lookouts left-hander David Hurlbut (3-3).
